Angela Birts, EdD| Educator, Consultant & Owner of Birts Equity and Inclusion Solutions LLC, Adjunct Faculty at the University of California Santa Cruz
Dr. Angela Birts is a professional educator, diversity consultant, social entrepreneur, and college lecturer committed to advancing educational equity and fostering diverse and inclusive environments for all. She has a Bachelor's in English and Communications from Lake Forest College and a Master's in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership Studies from Stanford University. She became the first African American to earn an Education Doctorate from San Jose State University.
Over the past fifteen years, Dr. Birts has spoken at numerous panel discussions and fundraiser events, conducted workshops on DEI, and won awards for her commitment to educational access, diversity, and social justice. In 2016, she received the Education Doctorate Leadership Program Award and the Phyllis H. Lindstrom Award from San Jose State University: "For significant achievement in the Ed.D. Leadership Program and for providing a model for Educational Leadership.
Dr. Birts founded Birts Equity and Inclusion Solutions LLC in 2018--a diversity consulting firm focused on helping educational institutions, private companies, and non-profit organizations advance their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. She also became a part-time lecturer at John R. Lewis College, University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). She teaches courses on Social Justice in which students explore the injustices many people confront and possible policies for addressing social, political, and economic inequalities.
Most recently, Dr. Birts contributed to the Ways 2 Equity Playbook, a resource guide for education leaders to advance equity in K-12 schools sponsored by the California State Assembly. In 2022, she won the Elisa Salaas Leadership Award for her outstanding equity work and social impact.
